  57. Cicely Beatrice Birley (Aunt Bee), Pedigree of Birley of Lancashire. P.30 "Great Aunt Bee" was the preparer of Pedigree of Birley of Lancashire. She initially published it in 1930 in looseleaf form, and subsequently added to it through about 1934. She chose to concentrate only on those persons who spell the name the same way: "Birley", and as a result was unable to trace much before about 1700. Because of the similarity of the entries in Pedigree and in Burke's Landed Gentry, it is highly likely that she is the source from which the Burke's entries originated.

The house was built on a high bank above the flood plain of the River Mersey, near the ford - which has since been replaced by a footbridge. The house was demolished, but hte houses built round there are known as the "Ford Bank Estate" and Fordbank Road" keeps the name. The river used to flood frequently, and the banks at the sides of the river were raised several feet some years ago, so there's no chance of "fording" it now!".
