He died on 24 March 1965 at the age of 76 in Dunster, Somerset, England. "Vicar of St. Michael's-on-Wyre, and subsequently Rector of Bury and Bishop Suffragan of Hulme, later of Grabbist House, Dunster, Somerset. Temporary Chaplain to the Forces during Great War, 1914-19. Awarded M.C., 1916. Hon. Chaplain to the Forces, 1919. Succeeded his father as Vicar Of St. Michael's-on-Wyre, 1919. Resigned the Living, 1930. Rector of Bury, Lancs., 1930-53. Rural Dean of Bury, 1934-45. Hon. Canon of Manchester Cathedral, 1957-45. Proctor in Convocation, first in Blackburn Diocese, and (1934-45) in Manchester Diocese, Member, Church Assembly, 1933-45. One-time Chairman, Manchester Diocesan Church Building Cttee. Chairman of Governors, Bury Grammar School, 1930-53. One-time Chmn, of Governors, Church Central School, Bury. One-time Deputy Chmn., Governing Bodies' Assocn. for Public Schools. A feoffee of Chethams Hospital. One-time Chmn., Hulme Charity, and President, Bury Lads Club. Hon. Chaplain, Lancashire Fusiliers, 1951, Appointed Bishop Suffragan of Hulme, 1945, Succeeded his uncle, Hugh Phipps Hornby, Esq., (q.v)., as Joint-Patron of the living of St, Michael's-on-Wyre with his younger brother, Edward Windham Hornby, Esq,, (q.v.)., 1944. Also succeeded his uncle to the Heywood estate, which was later sold. Retired to Somerset, 1953.""
