Richard Birley Merchant and Alice Hornby were married on 15 December 1772 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.^3,9 Alice Hornby^{2,3,8,9,22,24,45,48,49,51,52,53}, daughter of Hugh Hornby and Margaret Hankinson, was born on 9 June 1746 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England.³ She was christened on 30 June 1746 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. She died on 19 April 1812 at the age of 65 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.³ Alice was buried after 19 April 1812 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.⁵⁴ Pedigree, and probably through it, Burke's, incorrectly state that Alice was the daughter of Thomas Hornby. Thomas was, in fact her brother.
