She died on 3 August 1856 at the age of 83 in Lancashire, England.3 Margaret was buried after 3 August 1856 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.84 It may be reasonable to assume that this is the sister of Alice Backhouse who married John Hornby, and who is the daughter of Daniel Backhouse. The birthdates are close, and the associations between the hornby and Birley families in Kirkham, Lancashire were substantial at this time.
