This section has only become possible because of the efforts and hard work of William Arthur Hornby who dedicated twelve years of his short life (he died in 1982 at age 47) to the research that is presented here. The hospitality that his widow, Jennifer Eckersley, J.P., and his son, Hugh extended to the compiler of this web data during a visit in March, 1997 is deeply appreciated. The compilation of this work is intended to be a partial tribute to all concerned.
Mr. Hornby's research concentrated on three Hornby families which originated in Lancashire.The history of the name is discussed in the page Early Hornby History which is part of this group. Two of the families merged in the person of the Venerable Phipps Hornby, and so the data presented here is in the form of the Ancestors and of the Descendants of that venerable gentleman.
