  106. Peter Hornby, "Update," e-mail message from <peter.ann@virgin.net> () to David Birley, 4-14-2007, Avalon Lawlor <g.lawlor@sympatico.ca>. Sadly, but with relief, I am sharing the news of my brother Ken's passing Wednesday morning, August 20th at 7 a.m.
He went into hospice on Sunday the 10th, where he was given such wonderful care. He had not gained consciousness since Wednesday night the 13th, but it was quite clearly a rough ride from then on. We can only be grateful that his hurting is over.
Ken was in life, the best procrastinator I knew and he provided his family with many a loving head shake at some of his shenanigans in this regard over the years. Despite being told in February 2006 that he only had a couple of months to live ... he procrastinated, and gave us another 2 and a half years before departing on his own schedule. We are so grateful for our extra time!
He was the best brother that this sister could imagine having. I have a lifetime of memories to cherish and revisit in the years ahead. He will be missed, but never forgotten. So many of those memories will be recalled with a chuckle. What a great way to make his final curtain call.
It was his ardent wish to be remembered as he lived, not mourned in his passing. At his request there was no graveside service [family gathered in quiet support of Anne Marie], but instead, he made the arrangements for a gathering to be held for family and friends within the next week, where we will all do our darnedest to give him the party he wanted. [A touch of the Irish genes coming into play here?]
    Warmest regards,
    Avalon
